Cocktail lounge Alley Oop opened last week at 320 Cedar St., in the former site of The Poet and Patriot Irish Pub. Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight daily. Owner Max Turigliatto has spent the past two years giving the space a comprehensive makeover.

Rebecca Benjamin

In 2020 when the pandemic hit and Benjamin was finishing her thesis on the Hydrodynamics of Surfboard she found herself spending hours at Almar Surf Works learning shaping and resin work from Michel Junod and Jon Henderson (Strive Surfboards). The fusion of mathematics, surfing and snowboarding blend together in Benjamin’s unique perspective of approaching the water and the crafts she creates. Since then, Benjamin has spent the years as head glasser and resin worker at Almar where she was given the nickname “The Laminatrix.”
